Should Celtic go all out to sign Stoke City defender Moritz Bauer?

Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Stoke City ace Moritz Bauer, but will the Scottish champions be overloaded in the right-back position if they sign him?

According to the Scottish Daily Mail, the Bhoys have made enquiry to sign the 26-year-old Austria international.

Bauer is a rapid full-back that impressed in the Premier League last season despite eventually suffering relegation, which is why he’s an interesting target for Brendan Rodgers.

The right-back can provide a brilliant attacking threat when he bombs forward and is difficult to beat in one-on-one positions.

However, Celtic already have two senior right-backs in their squad through Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa, while there is also emerging 19-year-old Anthony Ralston too that has senior experience.

Bauer would be walking into some tough competition if he made the switch to Parkhead, but could be the best of the bunch if he settles and find his top form.

That is why signing Bauer could be a great deal, as strengthening the starting XI should ultimately be the priority and extra competition is healthy when Celtic are set to have a busy fixture list.

One solution for Rodgers to potentially consider is converting Lustig into a centre-back option to free up the full-back area, something he has done in the past.
