Tottenham Hotspur youngsters must be buoyed by the fact that several academy players have developed into fully pledged first-team stars in the last few years under Mauricio Pochettino’s reign.

There is certainly a path to the senior side for Spurs’ rising stars to follow and the manager will reportedly be keeping his eye on as many as six upcoming talents during pre-season.

Attacker Kazaiah Sterling is one of those academy players that will be under the gaze of Pochettino, according to Football.London.

The 19-year-old striker has been a big hit in the club’s Under-23 side and even made his only senior appearance to date last season, with a brief substitute outing in the Champions League group stages against APOEL Nicosia.

Pochettino is clearly well aware of Sterling’s huge potential and he could be destined for a first-team breakthrough in the upcoming 2018/19 campaign.

Tottenham are still searching for suitable cover for talisman Harry Kane in attack, with both Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente flopping in that role during the last two years.

A strong pre-season for Sterling can surely put himself into contention for more senior appearances next season and it is about grabbing those opportunities if they come along.

Kane could be the perfect mentor for Sterling given his route from the academy to the senior team and Tottenham fans would love to see another striker come through the ranks to rip up the Premier League.
