Stan Collymore has slammed the fact that Everton could reportedly fork out £50million to sign attacker Richarlison from Watford.
According to BBC Sport, the Toffees hope to complete a deal for the 21-year-old by Tuesday and that he could end up costing them a staggering £50million.
The report claimed he had a medical with the Merseyside club on Monday and looks set to follow his former manager Marco Silva to Everton.
Collymore is amazed that Richarlison looks set for a colossal eight-figure fee move this summer and does not feel he is worth that much money.
“There’s obviously a Silva tax on Richarlison – how else an you explain Everton paying Watford £50million for a player whose output has been average?” Collymore wrote in the Daily Mirror’s print edition (Page 51, 24 July).
“But what makes that sum even more obscene is the fact it was agreed around the same time football was discussing the funding put into the grassroots game from the Premier League, the EFL and the FA.
“Yet it was spent on a man who scored five goals in 41 games last season and hasn’t found the net since mid-November.”
Richarlison only moved to English football last summer and lit up the Premier League during the early months with some promising displays.
The left winger was a star man for Watford in front of goal and looked like a rising star destined for the top.
He was thriving under the tutelage of manager Silva and the pair could be reunited very shortly at a new Premier League club.
However, the Brazilian did slip out of the side in the second half of the campaign as his form dipped and he ended up with five goals and five assists during his first year with Watford.
