Chris Sutton believes that Celtic re-signing Patrick Roberts this summer would be a good move.
Chris Sutton has revealed he is hoping Celtic put their foot on the gas in the transfer market and make some new signings before the window closes on 31 August.
English sides may have had a busy deadline day on Thursday as their window shut, but across Scotland and other European leagues teams still have time to add new faces to their squads.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have added Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal this summer, while goalkeeper Scott Bain also joined.
However, the Bhoys have seen their Old Firm rivals Rangers go crazy with an overhaul of their squad during the summer under new manager Steven Gerrard.
Some Celtic fans may hope they can add further talent to the squad and re-signing Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts was speculated about by one supporter.
Sutton was asked on social media whether he thought attacker Roberts would end up back at Parkhead and he hopes that deal takes place.
“I hope so…. let’s hope after the last day or two Celtic get their recruitment finally into gear,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Roberts has spent the past two-and-a-half years on loan at Celtic before returning to Premier League champions Manchester City in the summer.
The right winger made 78 appearances during his spell with the Bhoys, scoring 18 goals and supplying 26 assists in return.
According to Sky Sports, Huddersfield were interested on deadline day in signing Roberts on loan, but that deal never took place leaving him on the fringes of the City squad as it stands.
There has been no reported interest in the 21-year-old from Celtic this summer, but manager Rodgers was open-minded when asked about his potential return.
“He (Roberts) is a fantastic player and we are always going to be interested in top class players,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Herald.
