Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa reportedly earns more than England boss Gareth Southgate.

Leeds United fans have huge aspirations for next season under the guidance of new manager Marcelo Bielsa and the high-profile appointment has captured their imagination.

The 62-year-old has a very impressive CV and is known for his attacking brand of football, while also making the 3-3-3-1 formation world famous.

There is set to be immense pressure on the Whites to compete for promotion next season in the Championship and that may be cranked up a notch after a report revealed his staggering wages.

Bielsa has signed a £6million-a-year deal at Elland Road and that is more than double what any of his Championship rivals managers earn, according to the Daily Star.

It is understood that a deal works out to around £3million-a-season after tax and that is remarkably £500,000 more than current England manager Gareth Southgate, who guided the national side to a World Cup quarter-final on Tuesday night after defeating Colombia on penalties.

Ex-Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom earned just £250,000 and it shows that the Yorkshire giants have taken a major step forward with his successor.

The Leeds board will hope their decision to back Bielsa comes off and that he can be the man to end the club’s 14-year exile from the Premier League.

The Whites kick off the Championship season with a home match against relegated Stoke City and will hope to lay down an early gauntlet.

Bielsa surely has to be under tremendous pressure to deliver promotion at the first attempt due to his astronomical wages, or he could be the latest manager to have a short reign at Leeds.
