Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez will allegedly hold striker talks by Wednesday.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly prioritising a new centre-forward this summer in the transfer window.

The Spanish boss is going to hold fresh talks about the progress of signing a new striker before jetting off for a pre-season trip to Ireland, according to the Chronicle.

It is understood the Magpies have placed a £20million bid for Nice attacker Alassane Plea, while West Brom’s Salomon Rondon is a £16.5million option for them.

Benitez is putting alternative transfer options on standby, as he looks to bring in a new striker to lead the line at St James’ Park next season.

There is no doubt that Newcastle’s forward line needs a revamp going into next season, and ideally they should bring in a player that can net 15-plus goals in the Premier League during a campaign.

The club’s top goal-scorer was attacking midfielder Ayoze Perez (10) last season and the likes of Dwight Gayle and Joselu are not cut out to be the main option in front of goal.

Newcastle fans will be pleased to hear Benitez is not mucking around in the transfer window and adding a striker imminently has to be the main focus for everyone at the club.
