Could West Ham’s reported interest in defender Diego Reyes cause more problems than it would solve?

West Ham are reportedly one of the teams interested in signing free agent Diego Reyes, but manager Manuel Pellegrini may already have enough options in defence.
According to Sky Sports, they are keen on the Mexico international alongside fellow Premier League team Newcastle United.
The report adds that Turkish outfit Fenerbahce have made an offer for the 25-year-old, who is now available after his contact expired at Porto this summer.
Reyes is a centre-back that has proven himself to be a steady option at Porto and has 55 senior caps at international level, but missed the recent World Cup through injury.
However, Pellegrini could be making his own problem if he adds yet another option for the heart of defence.

Angelo Ogbonna, Declan Rice and Winston Reid are all decent centre-back options at the London Stadium, while the club have also signed two extra defenders this summer to compete for a starting position.
Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena are brand new centre-backs that could help shake-up the West Ham backline, which is why adding another competitor in the squad makes little sense.
However, the fact that Reyes is a free agent this summer does make it understandable that the Hammers are sniffing around him, but is he really necessary?
