Sam Allardyce suggests dropping either Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier or teammate Kyle Walker for England against Sweden.

Sam Allardyce has suggested that either Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier or Manchester City’s Kyle Walker should be axed from England’s starting XI in their World Cup quarter-final.

Gareth Southgate’s side face Sweden on Saturday afternoon in a huge clash, but ex-Lions manager Allardyce has recommended tinkering with the favoured 3-5-2 formation.

He feels that either Trippier or Walker must drop out to allow England to have an extra attacking option in their side.

“If I was in Gareth’s shoes, and I know I’m not, I would seriously consider changing the system,” Allardyce told talkSPORT.

“For me, it would have to be Trippier or Kyle Walker (to leave out). If you left Trippier out, you put Walker at right-back and if you left Walker out you’d leave Trippier at right-back.

“Trippier has been terrific but it is a big decision you have to make.”

Trippier has been one of England’s standout performers so far at this summer’s World Cup and has been a brilliant creative source from right wing-back.

The 27-year-old constantly bombs forward into attack and has also taken up the role as senior set-piece taker.

Meanwhile, Walker has been transformed into a centre-back by Southgate as part of a three-man defence and is one of the more experienced members of the young group.

Both are viewed as integral to the side and it would surely be a huge shock if England took Allardyce’s advice and left either out against Sweden.

Tottenham fans must be particularly impressed by the dazzling performances of Trippier on the World Cup stage and club manager Mauricio Pochettino has to take huge praise for his rapid improvement in the last couple of years.
