Alan Shearer tweeted after striker Adam Armstrong sealed his Newcastle United move to Blackburn.
Alan Shearer wished centre-forward Adam Armstrong the best of luck following his move from Newcastle United to Blackburn Rovers on a permanent basis.
The 21-year-old has completed his move to the Championship club on a four-year deal, as the Magpies confirmed his exit on Monday.
Newcastle-born Armstrong has departed St James’ Park after graduating from their academy and spending the last few years out on loan with various clubs.
The striker made 21 first-team appearances for Newcastle and club legend Shearer wished him luck in his next adventure.
“Great news. Good luck Adam Armstrongm” Shearer wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Armstrong helped Blackburn obtain promotion from League One last season, scoring nine goals in just 21 appearances in all competitions in the second half of the campaign.
He is an England Under-21 international who has proved out on loan that he can be clinical in front of goal, but he has not quite done enough to force his way into the Newcastle senior side on a regular basis.
It may surprise some Newcastle fans that Shearer labelled Armstrong’s exit as “great news”, especially given the club’s problems in front of goal last season.
Rafael Benitez currently has Joselu, Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto as options in the final third for the new season.
