Newcastle United currently sit second in the Championship table following four straight league victories.
Former Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has given his thoughts on his former club under his replacement Rafa Benitez.
McClaren was sacked by United in March last season as the club were ultimately relegated from the Premier League despite Benitez’s appointment.
Now in the Championship, the Magpies have won their previous four league matches and currently sit second in the table behind leaders Huddersfield Town.
And the former England manager believes Newcastle are showing that they are well equipped to make a swift return to the English top flight.
Following United’s 2-0 win at Derby County at the weekend he told Sky Sports News HQ: “Yeah I think (Newcastle will get promoted), I think (Benitez) has found his 11 or definitely his best nine – his back four, midfield four and keeper. But he’s still searching a little bit further forward.
“I watched the (Derby) game and once they got the goal they were so much in control with so much arrogance. Newcastle deserved it.”
Tuesday night will see two of McClaren’s former employers meet as Newcastle prepare to take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road (7.45pm kick-off).
A win for the Rs will see them leapfrog United in the table while Benitez will be hoping to pick up a sixth consecutive win in all competitions.
