Queens Park Rangers knew they would be in for a tough test when they welcomed in-form Newcastle United to Loftus Road on Tuesday evening, although no one could have envisaged the events that unfolded as the away side hit the Rs for six.
A brace from England international Jonjo Shelvey, along with goals from Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and new signings Ciaran Clark and Grant Hanley, saw the Magpies achieve their biggest away victory in over half a century while QPR suffered their heaviest league defeat ever.

The early stages of the game, however, were relatively tight and there was plenty for the home side to feel positive about. Then Newcastle forward Perez had a goal controversially ruled out for offside – prompting the following response from QPR’s Official Twitter account.

It’s clear to say that it wasn’t the Hoops’ night, as Newcastle United proceeded to score six. The home side were completely outclassed by the Championship newcomers.
The result sees QPR drop to 14th in the table, while Newcastle closed the gap on Huddersfield at the top to just a single point.
