Teenage striker Adam Armstrong scored a superb goal on his Barnsley debut as they beat Preston North End 2-1 at Deepdale.
Adam Armstrong in action for Newcastle United
Adam Armstrong opened his Barnsley account in some style as he came of the bench to grab a quite superb winner on his first appearance for the club.
Armstrong scored 20 goal in League One for Coventry City last season and many had expected him to make the step-up for the Magpies following their relegation.
But the recruitment of strikers Dwight Gayle and Daryl Murphy put the 19-year-old down the pecking order as he was loaned out to Barnsley as a result in order to gain more first team experience.

And just minutes into his Tykes’ debut, the England Under-19 international scored one of the goals of the season so far as he turned Preston defender Alex Baptiste with an instinctive back-heel flick before clinically curling the ball past former Manchester United stopper Anders Lindegaard to seal a 2-1.
The result took Armstrong’s new side up to second in the table before his parent club overtook them after beating Derby County 2-0 later in the day.

The young Geordie is likely to stay at Oakwell until at least January but it’s fair to say he is already making a name for himself in the Championship.
