Earlier this month, Carlos Corberan decided to sign a new contract with West Bromwich Albion.

The Spaniard, committed his future to the Baggies rejected the advances of Leeds after the sacking of Jesse Marsch. However, since then, his team has failed to win a single game, with their latest defeat coming at the hands of Watford.

West Brom started the Corberan-era brightly, climbing into the playoff spots, but they have been unable to sustain that early momentum, and their recent form is concerning. They have now gone three games without a win, with two of those matches ending in defeats.

It may not be a coincidence that this run of form has come after lots of speculation about Corberan’s future.

Yes, the manager ultimately decided to stay in the Midlands, but the speculation about Leeds certainly rocked the boat.

Indeed, his decision to stay put at the Hawthorns could now come back to haunt him, as West Brom’s form continues to stutter.

Leeds, on the other hand, have appointed another Spaniard in the shape of Javi Gracia in their bid for Premier League survival, and they’ll be hoping he can benefit from early momentum in the same way Corberan did at West Brom.

It remains to be seen whether Corberan will come to regret his decision to stay at West Brom, but his team’s recent form is certainly a cause for concern. The Baggies are still in with a chance of securing a playoff spot, but they will need to start winning games if they are to have any chance of promotion, starting today against high-flying Middlesbrough.

Leeds wanted Corberan as their new manager, but based on recent results, they may have had something of a lucky escape here.
