Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, former Spurs defender Stephen Kelly has been waxing-lyrical about Harry Kane after Tottenham battered Newcastle.
Kane may not have scored against the Magpies, but he was instrumental in Spurs’ 5-1 victory. He grabbed one assist and played no fewer than three key passes as he continued to double up as a brilliant playmaker as well as a fantastic centre-forward.
Kelly was blown away by Kane’s showing, and he says that he looks absolutely rejuvenated under Antonio Conte.
What’s been said?
Kelly was full of praise for Kane.
“I just think what was important was getting Harry Kane mentally on side. In the summer, after England when he didn’t get his move, there was a lot there, his focus wasn’t there and you could see he was off it,” Kelly said.
“Getting Conte in, it’s going to spur you on, when you have a manager like that, you’re going to want to play for them, you feel like he has the ability to win something for you or to make you a better player.
“He was sensational under Mourinho, he dropped off under Nuno, but that was more due to club politics and not getting his move. Absolutely, Conte being there has completely rejuvenated him and he’s back playing his best football,” Kelly said.

Back to his best
Kelly is absolutely right about Kane, he’s back to his best under Conte.
The England captain wasn’t at his best at the beginning of the season under Nuno Espirito Santo, and, to be honest, he didn’t have the greatest start under Conte either.
However, he’s now well and truly back into the swing of things, and a lot of the credit has to go to Conte for this transformation.
Conte has gotten Kane back to his best, and perhaps next season he can help him find a whole new level at Tottenham.
