Jason McAteer has slammed the actions of Arsenal transfer target Moises Caicedo and new Newcastle United signing Anthony Gordon.
The former Liverpool midfielder questioned who is advising the Brighton midfielder, as he attempts to force a move to Arsenal, whilst McAteer wasn’t best pleased with Gordon missing a number of training sessions for Everton prior to his Newcastle move.
Whilst Gordon has got his move and swapped a relegation battle for a Champions League race, Caicedo is still hopeful he can leave before Tuesday’s cut-off point.
The 21-year-old made it clear on social media recently that he wants to leave the Amex Stadium, and whilst he didn’t mention Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, it’s pretty obvious he wants that move.
It was perhaps easier for Everton to part ways with Gordon because of their financial situation, the fee they are getting for an unproven player, their current situation and how the winger’s relationship with his own fans was starting to take a turn for the worst.
That’s not exactly the case for Caicedo, whose recent actions, alongside Gordon’s, were heavily criticised by McAteer, as he told beIN SPORTS (28/01/23 at 5:45 pm).
“You know what drives me mad about that,” said McAteer. “We are all in agreement that Caicedo has an agent. He must have!
“Why does that agent think it’s okay for him to do that?! Who has advised him of that? Exactly (probably his agent). It drives me mad. It’s bad for him.
“We have Anthony Gordon. Not going into training?! Everton have given him an opportunity. They have nurtured him from when he was a young kid. Sometimes you have to point the finger at them. Like the Anthony Gordon situation.
“There’s a way of handling yourself in these situations. They are both doing the same thing, but it doesn’t make it right. Brighton don’t have to sell him – there is a manner in which you should conduct yourself. I’m not saying he shouldn’t leave or Arsenal shouldn’t sign him.”
WILL CAICEDO GET HIS MOVE?
The clock is ticking for the midfielder, but it’s clearly not up to him!
Brighton have already sold two players to Arsenal – previously Ben White and now Leandro Trossard this month, so that does increase the chances somewhat.
Whatever does or doesn’t happen, these are Douglas Luiz vibes for Arsenal fans because, back in the summer, they were making late bids for the Aston Villa midfielder, only for him to stay put and sign a new contract.
