‘Dribbling, assists, goals’: Deschamps hails reported Arsenal target; loves his technique

Didier Deschamps has highlighted the ‘technical quality’ of reported Arsenal target Houssem Aouar after the Lyon play-maker was handed his debut call up for the French national team, while speaking to RMC Sport.

Some of the biggest and most respected names in world football have been lining up to praise this diminutive 22-year-old since he burst onto the scene a few years ago.

Pep Guardiola has described Aouar as an ‘incredible’ talent and, after watching the little midfielder run rings around Manchester City during the Champions League quarter-final, Kevin de Bruyne could hardly hide his admiration either (RMC).

“If I had to pick it one name, for me it would be Houssem Aouar. Today, he had a good game.”

Lyon’s lock-picking maestro has had more than a few ‘good games’ this season, even if Rudi Garcia’s side did finish a distant seventh in the Ligue 1 table.

And Aouar will now be rewarded for his increasingly influential displays with the chance to represent the reigning World champions during next month’s Nations League clashes with Sweden and Croatia.

“I like his technical quality: dribbling, assists, goals. He now shows a little more consistency. He can play in several positions too,” says the legendary Deschamps, who has also handed maiden call-ups to Rennes wonder-kid Eduardo Camavinga and RB Leipzig colossus Dayot Upamecano.

Lyon’s sporting director Juninho has already admitted that Aouar might have outgrown his current surroundings and, according to L’Equipe, Arsenal are interested.

After producing 19 goals and assists from his attacking midfield role last season, Aouar’s price-tag has soared to £54 million, meaning the Gunners will surely be forced to sell before they can buy.
