Tottenham Hotspur could appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager if recent reports are to be believed, and if that is true, you’d have to imagine that Ryan Sessegnon will be buzzing.

The Spurs youngster hasn’t been able to show his talents since Pochettino left. Jose Mourinho rarely used him during his first season at Tottenham, while he was sent out on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.

However, under Pochettino, Sessegnon seemed to be a lot more comfortable at the club, and the manager had plenty of faith in him, giving him plenty of chances to shine in the Premier League and even the Champions League.

It was a relationship that worked both ways as well, Sessegnon spoke very highly of Pochettino after he left the club, stating that it was a dream come true to play under the Argentine.

“He [Pochettino] was a big part of me coming to the club,” said Sessegnon.

“I knew they had been watching me for a while and to finally come to the club and play under him was a dream come true. Then, for him to go suddenly after not working with him at all was disappointing. It’s part of the game and I’m just trying to work and improve under the new manager,” he added.

Pochettino’s system would certainly suit Sessegnon a lot more than Mourinho’s.

If Sessegnon is to be played as a left-back, he will be allowed a lot more room to roam and play higher-up the pitch under Pochettino. In contrast, Mourinho system is much more constrictive in terms of allowing players to express themselves, especially in the defence.

Pochettino managed to get the best out of his full-backs at Spurs, turning Kyle Walker and Danny Rose into one of the best pairings in the division at one point, and if he’s allowed to re-unite with Sessegnon, he may help the former Championship Player of the Year finally find his feet in the Premier League.
