An interesting update surrounding the area around Newcastle’s stadium St. James Park could see the famous Premier League ground extended in the coming years.
According to Business Live, Newcastle developer High Street Group are set to apply to go into administration after a series of reversals and criticism from investors, customers and contractors.
Whilst this news doesn’t sound too interesting at first, it’s important to note that High Street Group own developing land right out next to Newcastle’s stadium after purchasing it from former club owner Mike Ashley.
And this update means that this land could be back up for sale. Meaning there’s a strong chance that Newcastle United could reclaim the area for their own, and in theory, expand St. James Park.
Following the PIF takeover of Newcastle earlier this year, grand plans have been proposed for the future of the Premier League club. Amanda Stavely has hinted that she wants to take the club to the UEFA Champions League. And a stadium expansion could well be in the master plan, as well.
After all, Newcastle is one club city. And despite the Magpies’ atrocious form this season, St. James Park regularly attracts 50,000 supporters on Premier League matchdays. And expansion could well happen if the cards all fall into place.
