Clive Allen has criticised Tottenham Hotspur player Emerson Royal on talkSPORT for getting sent off against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the North London derby on Saturday afternoon.
The former Tottenham star believes that Emerson’s tackle on Gabriel Martinelli in the second half of the Premier League game was “dreadful” and “stupid”.
Arsenal were 2-1 in the lead at the time.
Brazilian star Emerson, who can play as a right-back or as a right wing-back, made a really bad tackle on his compatriot and Arsenal forward Martinelli.
Referee Anthony Taylor sent off Royal straightaway.
Clive Allen was following the North London derby for talkSPORT, and he has hammered Emerson.

Criticism for Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson v Arsenal
Allen said: “That is a ridiculous challenge. Raises his boot, six studs, and he’s just jeopardised the whole game for his club in this north London derby..
“Emerson doesn’t play it anywhere near the ball, he just flips Martinelli’s legs from underneath him. It’s dreadful, a stupid challenge and the referee Anthony Taylor is spot on with his decision. That is crazy.”
In our opinion, Emerson Royal should have done better with his tackle that got him sent off against Arsenal in the North London derby today.
It was a really bad challenge that could have seriously hurt Arsenal forward Martinelli.
Emerson has not had the best of times at Tottenham so far in his career, and his sending-off against Arsenal could affect his chances of playing regularly for Antonio Conte’s side when he returns from suspension.
