Alan Shearer has used one word to sum up Liverpool‘s performance this afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s side slumped to a 3-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Seagulls had been scoring goals for fun prior to Liverpool’s arrival at the Amex Stadium.
But still, this is a game that the Reds could – and should – have given a much better account of themselves in.
A second-half double from Solly March and a late one from Danny Welbeck did the damage for an awful Liverpool side, it has to be said.

And here’s how Shearer reacted to the result on Twitter this afternoon:
There’s some context which has to be taken into account for Klopp’s side.
And that is, the German manager is missing some massive players.
Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk all missed this outing due to injury.
And therefore, Liverpool’s defeat isn’t all so surprising.
However, it’s their performance which will worry the former Borussia Dortmund coach.
From the first minute to the last, Liverpool – eighth in the Premier League table – were utterly toothless in attack and nowhere near good enough in defence.
And you have to say, Shearer’s use of the word ‘dreadful’ is perfectly justified and even Klopp himself won’t make any excuses in his post-match press conference.
Well, hopefully.
