Drake says he is retiring from sports betting after losing a $1 million wager on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

The Canadian rapper shared on Instagram that he is off sports betting and posted a clip of himself playing online roulette, adding that he is sticking to what he knows following the defeat.

His decision follows the Patriots’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks, which wiped out his seven-figure stake. The announcement comes after a run of highly publicised bets that have not gone his way.

Drake’s $1 million Super Bowl bet backfires

Drake publicly revealed before the game that he had placed a $1 million bet on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl, sharing the wager with followers on social media.

He wrote “Bet against me if you dare,” appearing to reference the long-running ‘Drake Curse’ theory tied to his public support of teams.

Had the Patriots won, Drake would have collected approximately $2.95 million, but the Seahawks’ victory meant he walked away empty-handed.

The loss prompted him to announce that he will be stepping back from sports gambling, at least for the foreseeable future.

‘Drake Curse’ conversation continues

The Super Bowl defeat adds to a series of high-profile bets that have fuelled discussion around the so-called “Drake Curse.”

He previously backed the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup and the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s Super Bowl, with both teams ultimately losing.

While the curse began as a fan-driven joke, repeated high-stakes losses have kept the narrative alive each time he shares a bet publicly.

For now, Drake appears ready to pivot away from major sports wagers and toward safer bets, marking a change in approach after another costly night tied to a championship game.
