The Bayern Munich man has been linked with a summer switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa tries to score past FC Ingolstadt 04's Ramazan Ozcan.

According to a recent report from the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Bayern Munich player Douglas Costa this summer, and if the story is true he is a winger target Spurs fans can actually get excited about.

There is no doubt Tottenham need additional width in their side with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou struggling and Erik Lamela disappearing altogether. But up to now the North London club’s alleged targets have been somewhat underwhelming.

Not so Costa, who is exactly the type of player to take White Hart Lane by storm were he to arrive.

First off, he is 26, meaning he is not a youngster who needs time to develop his game, but a player who should – in theory – hit the ground running.

He has turned out 74 times for a Bayern side that is undoubtedly one of the best in Europe and with 14 goals and 27 assists he has also played a major role.

Having previously scored 38 goals and set up 40 more during a 202-game career at Shakhtar Donetsk, the Brazilian international clearly has no issue settling in unfamiliar surroundings and, at the peak of his career, he could be exactly what Tottenham need to reach the next level.

It would take a sizeable bid to get him, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy should sanction one regardless, because Tottenham now need ready-made stars, chockful as they are with young sensations.
