A look at what Dougie Freedman said about new Leeds signing Mo Barrow in 2015.

Leeds United clinched the signing of Modou Barrow on transfer deadline day, bringing him in on loan from Swansea City.

It is Barrow’s third Championship loan, following short spells at Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers over the past two seasons.

The 24-year-old winger is hoping to make an impression at Elland Road, and will hope to start this weekend against Cardiff City.

He was a player former Forest boss Dougie Freedman had real admiration for, speaking highly of him after signing him in 2015.

The former Leeds striker told Forest’s website at the time: “When I had the opportunity to sign him a few days ago, I was all over it. There was competition from three other clubs and we had to make sure we showed him what the club’s about, what kind of team we’ve got and how he can express himself coming down into the Championship.

“He’s mobile, he’s quick, he’s got great balance, a wonderful left foot and he can take a goal.”

“He won’t be the star of the show – he’ll need to make sure he works hard for the team. And he seems to gel with that kind of attitude.”

Barrow was unable to live up his billing at Forest, playing only 143 minutes of football in four appearances, without a goal.

Two years older now, the winger will want to show he can live up to his potential, and should get more chances between now and May for Leeds than he did at the City Ground.

His direct running could help open up defences for Leeds and create space for Chris Wood to continue his prolific goalscoring record, so the Whites can maintain their play-off push.
