Emile Heskey has told Premier League Daily, which was broadcast on Optus Sport yesterday, that he doesn’t think either Ozan Kabak or Ben Davies will be able to break into Liverpool’s starting line-up next season.
Kabak and Davies were both brought in at Liverpool in January, as Jurgen Klopp’s side bolstered their defensive ranks.
Kabak has played regularly since his arrival, although that he been more out of necessity than choice.
There is no certainty that the 20-year-old will stick around at Anfield, even though Liverpool do have a purchase option.
And Heskey believes that even if the Reds do sign Kabak they will still need to bring in more players, as he cannot see either of their January recruits really pushing the likes of Virgil van Dijk or Joe Gomez, when they do return to full fitness.
“I think they need players. They have bought two young centre-backs, but when you’re looking at Van Dijk and Gomez coming in, are they really going to be challenging? Doubt it,” he said.

“They also need another striker to get you 25/30 goals a season, because they have the ammunition.”
Liverpool will hope that next term they can avoid the sheer volume of injuries that they have this time around.
It remains to be seen quite what level Van Dijk and Gomez will return at.
But Liverpool surely will want to bring in another centre-back, as they have seen the importance of having strong cover in that area this term.
