Mohamed Salah has been speaking to beIN Sports after breaking Didier Drogba’s Premier League record with his recent hat-trick for Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, after his hat-trick in Liverpool’s 5-0 win on Sunday, Salah became the top-scoring African in Premier League history.

The Liverpool No.11 now sits on 107 Premier League goals, leapfrogging Didier Drogba who scored 104 Premier League goals for Chelsea.

However, Salah actually miscalculated the situation, and thought he’d broken the record when scoring against Crystal Palace in September!

The 29-year-old whipped off his shirt in celebration at Anfield in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, but admits Jürgen Klopp may not be happy if he does so again.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Salah said: “I did it against Palace thinking I equalled Drogba’s record but apparently I was one goal short. Therefore I doubt I’d be doing it again, I might be chased by the coach.”

We wondered why the Egyptian got so excited about scoring the second goal against Crystal Palace! Clearly, he wrongly thought he’d made history.

Mohamed Salah Liverpool journey is poetic

Football can often spring up some beautiful stories, and Salah’s rise to greatness at Anfield is certainly one of those.

It is wonderfully poetic for a player rejected by Chelsea to then go on and break a record held by a Blues legend in Drogba.

Talk about making Chelsea regret their decision!

After being shipped to Italy by the Blues, it would’ve been easy for Salah to shy away from the Premier League and continue to impress in Serie A.

However, he isn’t the type to turn down a challenge.

Salah worked on himself, and returned to England with a point to prove, which he has done so in emphatic fashion at Liverpool.

Without a doubt, the former FC Basel attacker is an inspiration.
