Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, journalist Alasdair Gold has shared what he knows about Eric Dier’s injury.

The England international limped off against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and sadly, it looked like quite a painful one.

However, it sounds as though the defender won’t be out of action for too long. This isn’t a ligament problem or a torn muscle, it’s simply a really bad dead leg, and while that may keep him out against Chelsea, he shouldn’t be sidelined for a lengthy period.

What’s been said?

Gold shared what he’s heard about Dier’s injury.

“You could see immediately, the whole incident was a typical Tottenham farce. I don’t know whether or not to blame Lloris for over-throwing the ball or Dier for not being switched on. It’s maybe somewhere in the middle. He over-extended and got whacked, they collided. He limped around afterwards and watching him go off with the physio was painful to watch. I presumed it was a knee-related thing, but from what I understand is that it’s a really bad dead leg, which is probably good news in the grand scheme of things. I think he’s still a doubt for Chelsea, it’s a really bad dead leg,” Gold said.

Not the worst news

Being without Dier against Chelsea is a blow. Especially as Japhet Tangange, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez all may not be available against the Blues.

However, this isn’t the worst news in the world.

Dier really looked to be struggling when he came off against Palace, so to hear it is only a dead leg is something of a relief.

Of course, dead legs can be incredibly painful, so we can certainly sympathise with Dier, but at least it’s not a long-term injury.
