Henry Onyekuru hasn’t even played a game in Everton colours but the Nigerian prodigy is already being linked with a move away from Goodison Park.
The report adds that the 20-year-old’s valuation has now soared to £15 million after scoring six goals in nine games in the Belgian Jupiler League this season. Although Anderlecht were beaten 4-0 by PSG in the Champions League last week, Juve and Atleti were understood to be impressed by Onyekuru’s performance as he terrorised Dani Alves from the left flank.
A double-your-money deal would make absolutely no sense for Everton, however – despite the admittedly impressive profit on the table.
A lack of a prolific goalscorer has been the root of most of The Toffees’ problems this season with Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramirez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all failing to replicate the presence and prolificity of the departed Romelu Lukaku.
And though Onyekuru has a long way to go before he can prove as influential as the Belgian battering ram, his excellent goalscoring record suggests he could be one of the Premier League’s most exciting young players in the very near future.
Everton beat off huge competition to land Onyekuru after he scored 22 goals in a stunning debut season for Belgian minnows KAS Eupen last season. Work permit issues, however, meant they were forced to loan him to Anderlecht for the 2017/18 season.
Reports of interest from Atleti and Juventus, and the fact Onyekuru’s value has doubled in two months, shows what a star the club has on their hands.
