Adi Hutter is facing an uncertain future after an alarming dip in form at Eintracht Franfurt, with Fussball Transfers suggesting that the Newcastle United linked coach could soon be on the market.

While last season’s Europa League semi-finalists are apparently ’backing our coach 100 per cent’, reports in the German media seem to suggest something rather different.

The Eagles have certainly had their wings clipped of late. And Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach in the first game back in the Bundesliga was their fourth successive domestic defeat.

As a result, a side who took the German game by storm last season with that oft-unstoppable Ante Rebic-Sebastien Haller-Luka Jovic frontline continue to resemble a pale imitation of their once irrepressible selves.

Frankfurt are currently sitting 13th in the table, just five points above the relegation play-off spot.

According to FT, there are problems behind the scenes as well as on the pitch. A divide is allegedly growing between Hutter and a number of influential figures at the Commerzbank Arena with a chasm only widened by a series of disastrous results, including a 3-0 Europa League thumping at the hands of Basel.

FT adds that Newcastle made a move for Hutter before handing Steve Bruce his dream job and, with the 50-year-old Austrian potentially about to become available, you can guarantee that the Magpies will be watching developments closely.

Hutter inspired BSC Young Boys to their first Swiss title in 32 years before winning the double at Red Bull Salzburg and transforming Frankfurt into one of the most exciting teams in Europe. One disappointing season should not undo all that good work.
