Rangers appear to have missed out on two promising young strikers.

Rangers secured a deal for Jermain Defoe earlier this month but questions remain over who is the future of their attack.
By June 2020, Defoe’s loan will have ended, and the chances are that Alfredo Morelos will have been bought for a big money fee.
Now Rangers could solve the situation then, but over the past fortnight they have been linked with deals for two terrific young prospects who could have become the future at Ibrox.
Sunderland’s Josh Maja is set to sign with Bordeaux (via BBC), while Charlton’s Karlan Grant is close to signing with Huddersfield (The Mail).
Both strikers have been scoring for fun in England’s League One, and are now on the verge of securing top flight moves.
Along with Dominic Solanke who joined Bournemouth, the duo would have been great options to learn under Jermain Defoe.

Work must continue behind the scenes at Rangers to try and sign a player who Rangers can expect to be a star striker at the club in five years time.
Both Defoe and Kyle Lafferty are into their 30s, while Morelos has made no secret of his ambition to one day move on, and if the money is right eventually they will.
Maja and Grant were each available on free transfers in the summer, and had Rangers been willing to spend now, they perhaps could have landed one of them.
Now Steven Gerrard must switch his attention to alternatives. The question is who?
