The Celtic man vows to give Brendan Rodgers a tough decision to make.
Celtic goalkeeper Dorus de Vries has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he hopes to retain his spot in the first XI ahead of a big week for the Bhoys.
The Dutchman joined Celtic from Nottingham Forest on a two-year deal last month.
The 35-year-old started the 4-1 win over Aberdeen prior to the international break, benching Craig Gordon in the process.
But it’s a huge next eight days for Celtic and it remains to be seen if manager Brendan Rodgers – who worked with De Vries at Swansea City – will keep him in the starting lineup or recall Gordon.
The Hoops host bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers on Saturday, before then kicking off their Champions League campaign next Tuesday away to Barcelona of all places.
But the veteran goalkeeper has stressed his desire to stay in the first XI following his debut against Aberdeen, and vows to give Rodgers something of a selection headache.
“Once you get into the team, you don’t want to go out,” said de Vries via The GET.
“I am working so hard and I want to stay in. I want to make it too hard for the manager to leave me out.
“It is his decision. I want to play, of course I do.”
Choosing between De Vries and Gordon will be a very big decision for Rodgers and one he cannot get wrong.
