French newspaper L’Equipe claim Borussia Dortmund are considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain outcast Hatem Ben Arfa this summer, but Newcastle United cannot let the Germans land their former star.

The 31-year-old attacker is set to leave the French giants in just over three weeks’ time as his contract expires at the end of the month, after being ostracised by new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.

Indeed, 15-time France international Ben Arfa failed to make a single appearance for PSG throughout the 2017-18 campaign, with Emery giving preference to the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria.

With Ben Arfa now available on a free, Dortmund are looking to add the former Nice star to their attack despite boasting stars such as Marco Reus, Christian Pulisic, Jadon Sancho and Mario Gotze.

A move to the Germans will surely prove tempting for Ben Arfa after Dortmund finished in fourth, meaning they have a chance at reaching the Champions League group stages through the qualification phase.

However, Newcastle should consider rivalling Dortmund to bring the former Toon favourite back to St. James’ Park, with the temptation of having unfinished business on Tyneside.

Joining Newcastle in 2011, Ben Arfa scored 14 goals and added 16 in 86 appearances. Since then, he has seriously upped his game back in his home country, prior to the 17-18 campaign.

But Alan Pardew froze the versatile forward out of Newcastle’s side towards the end of his tenure as manager, which saw him released in January 2015 and eventually join Nice in the summer.

Newcastle should excite fans by looking to rival Dortmund for Ben Arfa this summer, in a move that could see the club prove Pardew’s judgement wrong.
