Arsenal fans fear Granit Xhaka could become Arsenal’s captain once again following Mikel Arteta’s comments.

After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy on Monday, Arteta spoke about the situation during his pre-match press conference.

Understandably so, it was the hot topic of discussion, with Arteta praising Xhaka – the man who Aubameyang replaced – during his presser and how he is ‘really important’ to the club.

Arteta stated that “Granit is one of the captains and he’s part of this leadership group. He’s a really important player for us.”

Arsenal fans fear that the armband may slip back onto the arm of Xhaka, and if that were to happen, then it would really sum up the club.

The £30 million signing (Sky Sports) was stripped of the captaincy by the previous manager – Unai Emery – and his replacement has since been dealt with in the same manner.

It would be quite comical if the man who was stripped of being Arsenal captain replaces the man who was stripped of being Arsenal captain.

All of it sounds perplexing and worrying if you are a Gooner, as fans are worried as to what direction the club is going or will go following yesterday’s news.

They take on West Ham on Wednesday evening in the hope of letting their football do the talking out on the pitch.

If not, then it’s obvious there will be more negative around the place and a fear that Arteta is losing the dressing room.

Whether Arteta was right or wrong to make such a call, one thing is for sure, it has put more pressure on all involved.

Given that Arteta is yet to officially name his new captain, it might be Alexandre Lacazette who leads the team out once more because he did so during Arsenal’s thumping win against Southampton.
