Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he plans to speak with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones following his outburst on international duty this week.
Jones was on the scoresheet on Wednesday night as England Under-21s beat Croatia 2-1.
But the last-minute goal that Aidy Bothroyd’s side conceded wound up denying the Young Lions a spot in the quarter-final of the European Under-21 Championship, knocking them out in the process.
The Liverpool youngster was infuriated by the opposition’s wild celebrations at full-time and was ultimately shown a second yellow card after needing to be held back from confronting some players.
And although Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that it wasn’t a nice spectacle to witness, he plans to discuss the incident with the 20-year-old star in person.
He told a press conference: “I will speak to him of course. That’s clear and how it is. You don’t want to see these things on the pitch after the game.
“We all know, in the moment when you lose a game – it meant a lot to the boys and it meant a lot to Curtis. He played a really good game, he was maybe the best player on the pitch, I saw the full game – saw his goal and the other things that he did.”
Jones also ended the brawl with a bloodied nose, but his own actions were just a result of passion and frustration.
The Liverpool star and his compatriots were seconds away from booking their place in the next round and given the manner of their elimination, it was a bitter pill to swallow.
