Some Newcastle United supporters on Twitter aren’t sold on the idea of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal.

The 19th-placed Magpies desperately need a new goalscorer in January.

Not only because Callum Wilson is injured, but because even with the former Bournemouth marksman Newcastle are still staring relegation in the face.

The Arsenal striker hasn’t kicked a ball under Mikel Arteta since December 6 due to discipline issues which resulted in him being stripped of the captaincy.

With his future looking bleak in North London, the 32-year-old is linked with a move away from the Emirates.

And according to The Mirror, Newcastle have made contact over signing Aubameyang – a £56 million signing in 2018 – in a loan-to-buy deal.

However, the veteran attacker is gearing up to represent Gabon in the Africa Cup of Nations, a commitment that’ll rule him out for a chunk of this month.

And here’s what some Newcastle supporters are saying on Twitter:

Gamechanger

Sorry but if you’re a Newcastle fan, you have to want Aubameyang.

Forget about the fact Arsenal aren’t using him, and forget about the fact he may not play for United until February.

This is someone who reached 50 goals for the Gunners quicker than Thierry Henry and if your team is devoid of goals then you can’t turn up your nose at someone like this.

Yes he tends to yoyo in and out of form these days, but Aubameyang, with a player like Allan Saint-Maximin supporting him, could almost single-handedly fire Eddie Howe’s side to safety and the supporters should hope this speculation is accurate.

He could be a gamechanger for the Magpies’ survival chances.
