‘Don’t think so’: 26-year-old reported Leeds target comments on his future

Eredivisie star Sean Klaiber has made it clear that he plans to stay at Utrecht despite interest from Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United, speaking to AD.

While even Spanish and German internationals have jumped at the chance to ply their trade under a legendary tactician at the iconic Elland Road, it seems that a 26-year-old Dutchman is a more immune to the charms of Bielsa’s free-flowing Leeds side.

Voetbal International reported in July that the West Yorkshire giants had identified Klaiber as a player capable of providing competition for Luke ‘the Lambeth Cafu’ Ayling on the right-hand side.

A typically attack-minded full-back, who scored on Utrecht’s first game of the Eredivisie season following a trademark forward burst, Klaiber certainly fits the bill for a Leeds boss who puts so much creative emphasis on his wide players.

But with Utrecht looking to force their way into Champions League contention under highly-rated coach John Van den Brom, Klaiber believes he has a major role to play at Stadion Gagenwaard.

“I don’t think so, no,” the former Dutch U21 international said when asked if he will be moving abroad before the October deadline.

“I want to blaze this season at Utrecht, that’s my goal. There is so much going on at the club now and I want to be part of it.”

Interestingly, Klaiber did admit that an approach from England could perhaps change his mind.

“Who knows, if there is a Premier League club… Those are opportunities you cannot pass up. But in my head I am very calm and I just want to be part of this team. Especially this season.”

There is still a glimmer of hope for Leeds then. Although, as it stands, it feels as if Victor Orta and co are fully focused on bringing in an attacking midfielder rather than a right-back.
