Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher has given his prediction for the Liverpool vs Manchester United match on Monday.
The pundit was asked to give his prediction for this game, and interestingly, Carragher is anticipating a close contest.
Indeed, despite the fact Liverpool beat United 9-0 on aggregate across their two league games last season and the fact that Manchester United are bottom of the Premier League right now, Carragher thinks that this will be a close game.
Inevitably though, Carragher has predicted a Liverpool victory, stating that the Reds will win 2-1.
What’s been said?
Carragher gave his prediction for this game.
“I think Liverpool will just win, I think it will be tough. I think Liverpool will win 2-1, I can see United getting a goal I can. The atmosphere there, the high line, they have pace in behind. I don’t think Liverpool have been defending well this season in the trhee games they’ve had. There have been a lot of opportunities for the opposition. I can see United scoring, but I think Liverpool have enough to get a couple of goals,” Carragher said.
Conservative
This is a very conservative prediction from Carragher.
Make no mistake about it, Manchester United are in disarray at the moment, and while Liverpool haven’t been at their best this season, this could be another thrashing.
Indeed, confidence at Old Trafford is at an all-time low, and while Carragher says that the atmosphere will help the Red Devils, the planned protest against United’s ownership may actually be a hindrance.
Liverpool could walk all over United here, and while Carragher has played it safe with his prediction, it’s hard to imagine this game actually being as close as the pundit suggests.
This could be a result that lives long in the memories of Liverpool supporters.
