Speaking to Off The Ball, Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Tyler Morton after his recent emergence in the Liverpool first-team.
Morton has broken into Jurgen Klopp’s squad in recent weeks, and it’s fair to say that Reds supporters are rather excited about the 19-year-old.
To be fair, we can understand why. It’s not often that a teenager seamlessly slots into one of the best teams on the planet.
However, while Reds fans are excited about Morton’s future, Lawrenson doesn’t believe that the midfielder has a future at Anfield.
What’s Lawrenson said about Morton?
The pundit says he’s been impressed by Morton so far, but he doesn’t believe he will have much of a future for the Reds.
“So far so good. He wasn’t great against Tottenham, but in his debut at Porto he was really good. I have to tell you though, I don’t think he’ll make it there eventually, because the competition is so strong,” Lawrenson said.
“He’s going to make a really good living from the game, but I don’t ever see him being a number one pick for Liverpool. He’s young, he’s inexperienced and he looks a bit lightweight. He’s certainly a player, but in 18 months’ time, I don’t see him being a regular in the Liverpool team. We talk about players who won’t play many games and he’s arguably one of them and somebody will come and take him.”
Realistic
Sadly, this is the most realistic outcome for Morton.
Now, we’re not saying that Morton isn’t good enough to play for a team like Liverpool. After all, he’s been very impressive so far.
However, with Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones also coming through, it’s hard to see how he gets into that midfield in the future, especially with the Reds’ reported interest in Jude Bellingham.
In an ideal world, Morton can prove Lawrenson wrong, but it’ll be a tough task for him.
