Reported West Ham United target Arkadiusz Milik could regret joining Marseille instead, former L’OM striker Marc Libbra has told La Provence.
For Libbra, it isn’t a question of Milik’s ability. It is the suitability of the Poland international he is worried about.
RMC Sport claims Milik has agreed an initial loan move to the Stade Velodrome, one that could turn into a £7 million permanent transfer should he find the net on a regular basis under Andre Villas-Boas.
But, according to a man who spent seven years at Marseille in the 1990s, this transfer makes little sense from a tactical point of view.
“I do not see the point of recruiting (Milik). OM do not have the style for a striker like him,” Libbra says of the 6ft 1in target man.
“Why take him?”
Milik hasn’t played a single game at club level this season – he was left out of Napoli’s plans after making it clear he wanted to leave.
And Libbra believes that’s yet another red flag.
“He has played seven games with Poland this season, none with Napoli.”
According to Onet, West Ham failed with a £6.3 million offer last week and were preparing a second bid for the one-time Ajax forward, who scored the crucial penalty in Napoli’s Coppa Italia triumph over Juventus in June.
But Hammers boss David Moyes apparently had doubts over Milik’s style, preferring the quicker, more adaptable Patson Daka (AreaNapoli).
Clearly Milik has a lot to prove, wherever he ends up.
