Speaking to AD, Frenkie De Jong’s father has been speaking about his son’s future amid links to Liverpool.
The Reds are reportedly very keen on the midfielder who has apparently been placed on the transfer list by Barcelona, but his father can’t see him moving anytime soon.
Indeed, John De Jong has quoted bad weather as one reason why his son won’t be keen on a move, claiming that he’s also renovating a new house close to Camp Nou.
What’s been said about De Jong?
John De Jong gave his view on his son’s situation.
“It’s often bad weather there. Of course it’s about football, but it does matter. Of course I know that Barcelona needs money and a great offer for Frenkie could help, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. Although, the five top European clubs have all called,” De Jong Snr said.
“The young couple is just renovating a new house. Closer to the stadium. They are having such a great time in Barcelona. Life is great there. I’m there often. Even now you are in the sun with 16 degrees. No, never on the Ramblas, that’s faded glory. The city offers so much more beautiful. I sometimes sit there on a terrace before a game and I see hundreds of people with a shirt from Frenkie. Those Catalans are absolutely crazy about him.”

Settled
Liverpool and Bayern Munich may be more appealing clubs than Barcelona right now, but does that really matter if you’re happy and settled?
Let’s not forget, these players are human beings and if De Jong is happy living and playing in Spain, why would he move?
As his dad says, the weather in the north of England isn’t ideal, even if Liverpool does have a slightly nicer climate than Manchester, and if he’s renovating a new house, why would he abandon that at this point?
It doesn’t seem as though any move for De Jong is very likely.
