Simon Jordan has told TalkSport (07/10/20 at 10:15 am) that he doesn’t think Mesut Ozil’s recent gesture towards Arsenal’s mascot is ‘genuine’.

After hearing that Arsenal’s long-term mascot, Gunnersaurus was being made redundant after 27 years, Ozil posted on Twitter that he is willing to pay his ‘full salary’ until he is at the club.

For most, this sparked a positive reaction from supporters, who praised the German World Cup winner for his actions during these difficult times.

But former Crystal Palace owner, Jordan, simply wasn’t having any of it and he stated that if Ozil’s gesture was ‘genuine’ then he didn’t have to ‘broadcast it’ to the rest of the world.

“Of course it’s not [genuine],” Jordan told TalkSport. “If Ozil wants to do a wonderful gesture, he doesn’t need to flag it up to his x amount of million followers.

“This is the one player in the Arsenal dressing room that didn’t want to give up any of his salary because he has a God-given right to understand that the board that pays him this enormous salaryM for which he does very little for, aren’t to be trusted with it.

“Look, it’s mean-spirited of Arsenal. It’s a situation where you think ‘how much does this guy cost really and truly?’ You have just given Aubameyang £300k-a-week, so whatever this guy costs, is small by comparison.

“If you do something and you want to do something for genuine reasons, you don’t need to broadcast it.”

It does seem as though Ozil gets a pretty bad rap in the media and his seemingly big salary doesn’t help his cause.

At the end of the day, it’s the Arsenal board who handed him his current contract and if Mikel Arteta doesn’t feel the left-footed playmaker is part of his long-term plans then he can do nothing but remain professional.

Either way, amid the bad spotlight Ozil is currently under because he cannot make Arteta’s matchday 18, this will at least, for most, shine a brighter light on the player.
