Liverpool fans are worried after hearing that Trent Alexander-Arnold is in line to start for England against San Marino tonight.
Alexander-Arnold to start?
The Times say that the Liverpool full-back is set to start later, as Gareth Southgate gives his fringe players a chance to step into his side.
England are not officially qualified for the World Cup, but only a disastrous turn of events would see them lose top spot in the group.
As a result numerous changes are expected to be made later, with Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold due to step in.
But with this international break already not going to plan, Reds fans are fearing the worst.
Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane are now both doubts for Liverpool’s game against Arsenal at the weekend, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
And supporters of Jurgen Klopp’s side are praying that Alexander-Arnold comes through tonight’s game unscathed after learning he will start.
A big chance?
Although Liverpool fans are less keen on Alexander-Arnold playing, the 22-year-old is likely to view the contest as an important game for him.
The creative right-back doesn’t seem to have fully earned the trust of Gareth Southgate just yet.
While a strong performance against San Marino may not immediately force him into starting contention, it could at least be a reminder of his attacking talents.
Alexander-Arnold faces strong competition for a place in the Three Lions’ line-up, with Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker among Southgate’s other options in the right-back position.
