
Quite a lot of Arsenal fans were puzzled by Mikel Arteta’s decision to leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of his first XI for last night’s Europa League clash with Slavia Prague – and so too was Everton’s Yannick Bolasie, it seems.
Say what you want about Aubameyang this season, but he is certainly Arsenal’s most dangerous player and yet Arteta benched him for the visit of Slavia in what was the Gunners’ biggest game of the season.
The North Londoners wound up drawing 1-1 but it was the former Borussia Dortmund marksman who played a role in Nicolas Pepe’s opening goal on 86 minutes, with the Gabon international, who only came off the bench 12 minutes from full-time, setting up his Ivorian team-mate.
It was a reminder that even though he hasn’t been at the races this season, the 31-year-old is always capable of providing something that changes a game.
