Stan Collymore has suggested in The Mirror that Arsenal fans should be cautious over expecting too much from their new star player Gabriel Jesus.

The former Liverpool striker has pointed out that Jesus did not start regularly for Manchester City before his move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The pundit has noted that we do not know how Jesus will play for Arsenal in the second half of the season when he will be expected to deliver the goods and bang in the goals on a regular basis.

After all, Jesus is the number one striker for Arsenal now.

The 25-year-old Brazil international striker has scored three goals and provided three assists in six Premier League matches for the North London club so far this season.

Stan Collymore on Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus

Collymore wrote: “Their fans will say Gabriel Jesus and Oleks Zinchenko have been brought in to help the mentality in the dressing room at that point.

“And I love the way Jesus, in particular, has started the season. But, as Mikel Arteta said a couple of weeks ago, the lad made just 18 Premier League starts in two seasons prior to joining the Gunners, so it’s a fair question for any of us to ask ‘Can he keep up this form for an entire campaign?’

“We don’t know yet how he will respond after the World Cup, or how will he play in January and February when it’s cold and wet and he’s still expected to be the main man.”

Staying positive

In our view, Arsenal fans should be optimistic and confident about Gabriel Jesus consistently playing well.

Yes, the striker was never the main man upfront at Manchester City, but that he left the defending Premier League champions for an Arsenal side who are not even in the UEFA Champions League shows his attitude and mentality.

Jesus joined the Gunners because he wants to play week in and week out and score goals.

That desire and hunger to do well will see Jesus score goals throughout the season.
