Tottenham Hotspur legend Jurgen Klinsmann wants to see his former club sign a player in the style of Manchester United star Paul Pogba, as he told ESPN FC.
During the Premier League clash between United and Spurs in North London recently, the World Cup-winning France international produced one of the finest 45-minute displays of his Premier League career.
As Tanguy Ndombele and Gio Lo Celso drifted out of the game, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg spent the afternoon chasing shadows, Pogba strutted across the turf with precision and poise, setting up Mason Greenwood’s late clincher with a brilliant through-ball.
According to Klinsmann, Tottenham are crying out for a man who can do it all in the middle of the park, dictating the tempo one minute before bursting into the penalty area to thrash home a stunning volley the next.
Someone like Pogba, really.
“If you look at a game like (Man United’s 3-1 win against Burnley on Sunday), where Paul Pogba suddenly raises the bar, he brings everybody to another level and his teammates then perform accordingly,” Klinsmann said.

“Spurs doesn’t have a player like him, Spurs doesn’t have a player in the middle of the park and really controlling the game.”
With reports linking Tottenham with a move for the likes of Marcel Sabitzer of RB Leipzig and Inter Milan dynamo Nicolo Barella, it seems Klinsmann is not the only one who has recognised the club’s need for a new, all-action central midfielder.
The Express reported a fortnight ago that Jose Mourinho had specifically asked Spurs to sign Sabitzer. It remains to be seen where that deal stands now.
