Jose Enrique has stated on Instagram that Liverpool are about to sign a ‘top’ player in Luis Diaz.

The former defender added that he understands Liverpool aren’t the type of club to splash big money on an Erling Haaland, but Diaz is the type of player ‘we can get’.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has reported on Twitter that Liverpool and Porto are ‘preparing paperwork’ for the 14-goal flyer to move to Merseyside in an imminent fashion.

When fit and available, Jurgen Klopp has one of the most deadly forward lines in Europe at his disposal.

Well, he’s about to add an aggressive-natured Colombian to his ranks if all goes well before Monday’s deadline.

For large parts of the January transfer window, it looked like Liverpool were going to have a quiet window, but Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Diaz seemed to have awoken them.

And Enrique shared his inside knowledge on the 25-year-old and which current Reds star he is similar to.

“When it’s confirmed, it’s a top signing,” said Enrique. “You are going to love the player. I really like the player.

“He’s a really specific player that Klopp wanted him, so he is a top signing and you are going to love the player.

“What I love about the player is that he scores goals, which is the main thing. He reminds me a little of Diogo Jota. He’s very aggressive in a good way. Pushes for the ball. Presses high. And constant energy.

“His work rate is unbelievable and then he scores goals. For me, he already is a top player.

“Don’t go for a £100 million player Sancho or Haaland. We are not able to do that. I understand that. But we can get this kind of player.”

With Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota fighting it out for the number nine role, Diaz will now add cover and competition for Sadio Mane on the left channel.

Diaz mainly operates from that left flank and his arrival might just bring the best out of Mane who has gone through some dry spells of late.

Andy Robertson faltered during some parts of last season, but Konstantinos Tsimikas’ form, when given a chance, has seemingly awoken the monster inside the flying Scotsman.

And now Liverpool fans will be hoping Mane turns into a goalscoring machine once again as Diaz edges closer to moving to Merseyside.
