‘Don’t get that at all’: McCoist baffled by what Lennon tried during final minutes v Rangers

Ally McCoist was left baffled by Neil Lennon’s decision to throw Shane Duffy up top during the final few minutes of Celtic’s 2-0 defeat to Rangers over the weekend.

The former striker stated on Sky Sports (17/10/20 at 11:30 start) that he ‘doesn’t get it at all’ as to why Lennon tried that tactic.

It was an afternoon to forget for Celtic, who simply didn’t turn up for the Old Firm encounter and were comfortably beaten by Rangers.

“There’s only one team that showed the passion, determination and courage,” McCoist told Sky Sports. “That’s Rangers – you are throwing Duffy up for the last couple of minutes, I don’t get that at all.”

Odsonne Edouard was a clear miss for the home side, but that didn’t excuse the performance Lennon’s side put out.

Celtic fans will be well aware that repeat displays such the one at the weekend will hand the title to their neighbours and the reaction won’t be pleasant if that’s the case.

Lennon clearly needs Edouard back on the pitch, but equally a number of the players need to show that they deserve to wear the shirt.

But, on the other side of the coin, Celtic have left their best form towards the latter stages of the season, whilst the Gers have had a tendency to falter
