Arsenal moved into the top half of the Premier League table with a 3-1 win away to Leicester City this afternoon.
The Gunners pulled off quite a surprising victory in light of the fact that Mikel Arteta’s side were 11th prior to kickoff.
In fact, Arsenal have spent most of the campaign in the bottom half of the table and were 15th as recently as December.
But the North Londoners are clearly heading in the right direction.
It’s been a shock domestic season for Arsenal by virtue of the fact that Arteta led them to FA Cup glory in August, beating Manchester City and Chelsea in their final two games.
And the Spaniard himself admitted to BT Sport today that the club’s position in the table is ‘really bad’ and that he avoids looking at it where at all possible.
He said: “Really bad. I don’t even want to look at it. It’s not good enough for the standards of this football club.”
Arteta is right – it isn’t good enough and he’ll know that ninth isn’t good enough either.
But the 38-year-old definitely has them going in the right direction and a win like this, against a team like Leicester who were competing for the Premier League title up until a few weeks ago, could lay the foundations to help Arsenal climb higher over the coming weeks and months.
