Jose Enrique has stated on his Instagram story he just simply doesn’t believe that Newcastle United will sign Cristiano Ronaldo if they secure Champions League football.
The 37-year-old has decided to take the next step in his illustrious, trophy-laden, goal-crazy, drama-filled and record-breaking career by signing for Saudi Arabian side, Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo was only recently at Manchester United, causing a stair after his tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, as he expressed a desire to still play at the top level and still don the colours of a team in the Champions League.
Well, when the multiple European Cup winner signed on the dotted line for Al Nasser, surprise rumours started emerging that if Eddie Howe can guide Newcastle to Champions League football, then he will be added to their squad.
It might be wide off the mark, or it might be entirely true, but either way, it has grabbed the attention of supporters and it’s no surprise given that the Magpies have Saudi-led ownership at the top of the club.
Former Liverpool and Newcastle left-back Enrique took to his IG story to respond to that by simply posting ‘don’t believe that’ with an image of the report in the background.

What Newcastle United’s Saudi-led ownership are currently doing in the transfer market shouldn’t be changed, even if that means opting against signing Ronaldo, if the rumours are true that is.
Putting aside the media noise around the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, when he was starting on a regular basis at Old Trafford, he still hit 18 Premier League goals.
The name, hype, attention and killer finish might be appealing to those in the Newcastle boardroom, but probably not to those in the stands.
