Rangers have officially hammered home the final nail in Celtic’s season.
The Gers beat their Old Firm rivals 2-0 at Ibrox this afternoon to move into the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.
And given that Rangers – who are 20 points ahead of Celtic in the Premiership – haven’t lost a league game all season, they’ll be huge favourites to follow up their title success with another piece of silverware.
Goals from Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent did the damage for Steven Gerrard’s side on a day when Celtic absolutely had to win to salvage something from what’s being a disastrous season.
Kent, in particular, was an absolute thorn in the Hoops’ side all day long and you need only ask Scott Brown.
Brown, who is leaving Celtic at the end of the season, couldn’t handle the tricky Englishman, who made the veteran midfielder look foolish on quite a few occasions with little pieces of skill that deceived the 35-year-old.
Here’s what Stuart McCall said on BBC Sport Scotland: “Kent’s done that four times now up against Brown. That’s a fantastic drag back and a really good hit. Fantastic play by Kent.”
Celtic had a chance to get back into the game when Leigh Griffiths won a penalty 10 minutes from time.
But true to their season, Odsonne Edouard fluffed his lines and Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor saved from 12 yards.
