Wrexham fans are in dreamland as promotion back to the English Football League was confirmed on Saturday.

The Welsh side have been out of England’s top four divisions ever since dropping into the National League back in 2008.

Now – however – under the guidance of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham are back, and a Premier League icon could be joining them in League Two next season.

What’s the story?

Well, Ben Foster has made quite the impact since joining Wrexham on a short-term deal, and it seems he could now be staying for another campaign.

The England international – who has made 390 Premier League appearances throughout his career – released his YouTube video of Wrexham’s celebrations on Sunday, in which he hints at staying.

After Foster is told by Reynolds that “you’ve been here before” on the Racecourse Ground pitch, the goalkeeper replies: “We’ll do it again next year.”

That response evokes an excited jump from the Deadpool star, who tells the Wrexham No.12 that his words are as good as a contract – “as good as gold” to be precise.

Talk of an official extension is yet to go any further with Foster set to leave Wrexham at the end of the season.

However, we see no reason why the 40-year-old would not want to continue playing for the Dragons in League Two.

It is an incredibly exciting time for Wrexham, and as far as Foster is concerned, we can’t see any better way for him to end his fantastic career by playing a part in the Welsh side’s return to EFL action.

Wrexham & Ben Foster are a match made in heaven

Not only is Foster still a tremendous goalkeeper, but from a marketing aspect, he and Wrexham go hand in hand.

The shot-stopper’s YouTube channel with 1.4m subscribers brings even more exposure to Reynolds and McElhenney’s Wrexham following agreements with TikTok and Expedia.

Furthermore, in terms of Foster’s retirement from football, getting his feet under the table at Wrexham is not a bad idea given the media opportunities presumably available to him once he hangs up his gloves.

As far as mid-season additions go, Foster joining Wrexham has proven to be a massive hit.
